An extensive 60-day journey circling Australia was terminated following the tragic passing of an elderly woman who was stranded by the ship on a distant island.

The passenger had been hiking on the remote island with shipmates from the vessel, but parted ways from the excursion for a break. The vessel sailed away leaving her and went back later that day after the crew realised the passenger was missing.

An extensive rescue mission located her remains the following day.

Officials are examining the incident, together with police and the official investigator.

Head of the cruise operator said that passengers and staff on the ship were notified that the rest of the cruise had been cancelled due to the "sad loss and prior engine troubles".

Through an announcement, he mentioned that travelers would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to organize the homeward trips of the individuals via specially arranged planes".

Officials also released an updated communication, and said they had "issued a directive to the Captain" banning any further travelers from getting on the liner.

The representative said that they would visit the ship in the port city upon its coming back.

Timeline of Events

The vessel first departed the coastal city on October 24th, and was only 48 hours into the voyage at the moment of the elderly woman's passing. The tropical location was the initial destination on the voyage.

Guests on board - who typically pay substantial amounts of money to participate in the cruise - were ferried there for a daily excursion with the choice of walking or snorkelling.

Family Reaction

The daughter of the elderly passenger said that her relatives was "stunned and distressed that the ship left the location after an planned tour without my mother".

Through her comments, she described her parent as an "active 80-year-old" who was a member of a walking organization.

"According to scant details we have been informed, it looks that there was a breakdown of responsibility and basic judgment," she mentioned.

She continued that she desired the examination would be able to identify what "the operator should have undertaken that might have saved Her existence".

The liner accommodates up to a hundred twenty guests with 46 personnel, according to official information. It was specially constructed to enter remote locations of the Australian shoreline and is fitted with "auxiliary vessels" - compact vessels used to ferry travelers on shore trips.

Incidents of this nature are rare, and liners have protocols to track which travelers are getting on or getting off, according to industry experts.
